The evolution of the rotation rate of the NEAs is analyzed with a global Monte Carlo method, taking into account planetary fly-bys (as in Scheeres et al., 2004) and the YORP effect (according to Scheeres, 2007). Building on the results of Scheeres et al. (2004) we show how YORP is needed to properly recover the observed spin distribution of NEAs, starting from a given initial Maxwellian distribution, compatible with a collisionally evolved population (e.g., Fulchignoni et al. 1995). Moreover, an insight into binary formation rate among NEAs is given.
