News and important links

Dear participants, make sure to review the Hinode-15 / IRIS-12 Code of conduct. It is to be followed at all times during the meeting.

There will be a public talk given by Dr. Michal Švanda on Wednesday, September 21, at 17:00. The talk will be given in Czech and further information in Czech is available here.

Rationale

The joint Hinode-15 / IRIS-12 meeting will be held in Prague, Czech Republic, during September 19-23, 2022. This meeting will provide a vibrant forum to discuss recent advancements and novel scientific findings from observations by Hinode, IRIS, and other space- and ground-based instruments.

The meeting will be held in-person. Depending on the interest, remote attendance at oral presentations might be accommodated. If there will be any travel restrictions that will prevent the speakers from attending in person, the possibility of remote talks will be considered.

Hinode explores the magnetic fields of the Sun in order to improve our understanding of what powers the solar atmosphere and drives solar eruptions. Hinode Solar Optical Telescope (SOT) measures the strength and direction of the Sun's magnetic field on the solar surface, the photosphere. Combined with two other Hinode instruments, the EUV imaging spectrometer (EIS) and the X-ray telescope (XRT), the mission is designed to investigate the causes of eruptions in the solar atmosphere and to relate those eruptions to the intense heating of the corona and the mechanisms that drive the constant outflow of solar mass, the solar wind. This meeting will be the seventh Hinode meeting held in Europe.

IRIS (Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph) is a NASA Small Explorer Mission that uses high-resolution UV imaging spectrograph to investigate how the solar atmosphere is energized. IRIS observations focus on the chromosphere and transition region of the Sun, a complex interface region between the photosphere and corona. IRIS fills a crucial gap in our ability to advance Sun-Earth connection studies by tracing the flow of energy and plasma through these layers of solar atmosphere. This meeting will be the third IRIS meeting held in Europe.

Sessions

The joint Hinode-15 / IRIS-12 meeting will focus on the prioritized science goals of Hinode and IRIS missions as described in their latest ESA extension proposals and NASA Senior Review Proposals. Participants are encouraged to present relevant results using Hinode and (or) IRIS observations coordinated with observations of other space- and ground-based instruments. The science goals of Hinode and IRIS missions are summarized in four sessions that are joined by an additional session focused on novel approaches to data analysis.

Session 1 - Surface magnetic field and its interaction with convection

Session 2 - (In)stability of the magnetized atmosphere: sources and evolution of energetic or eruptive events

Session 3 - Tracing mass and energy flow between photosphere, chromosphere, and corona

Session 4 - Fundamental processes: waves and turbulence, magnetic reconnection, particle acceleration, ion-neutral interactions

Session 5 - Novel approaches to data analysis
