APEX - Call for Proposals 2023
The large research infrastructure EU-ARC.CZ, in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Radioastronomy, is pleased to announce the opening of a Call for observing proposals for the Atacama Pathfinder Experiment (APEX) telescope intended for the Czech research community. The deadline for proposal submission is on 18th of September, 2023. The observations will be scheduled in the period 15-19 October 2023, with about 70 hours available for approved science observations. Please take into account that the APEX operations are restricted to observations in the night and morning shifts, hence focusing on the best weather conditions. Observations are therefore in general conducted between 20:00 and 12:00 local time and the corresponding visibilities of targets should be considered.
The key dates of the Call for Proposals:
|01 September (10AM)||Community Meeting|
|18 September||Proposal submission deadline|
|02 October||Announcement of the outcomes of the proposal review process|
|15-19 October||Observations Run at the APEX telescope|
APEX is a 12m submillimeter telescope situated at an altitude of 5107m on Llano de Chajnantor in Chile. For details on the facility and its operation please look at www.apex-telescope.org. The following APEX instruments will be available in the Call:
nFLASH receiver with two tunable frequency channels: nFLASH230 & nFLASH460 operating in the frequency windows between 196 and 281 GHz and 378 and 508 GHz. Simultaneous observations with both nFLASH channels are possible with a slightly reduced performance (www.apex-telescope.org/ns/nflash/)
LASMA 7-pixel multibeam array operating in the 345 GHz atmospheric band providing sideband-separated data with up to 6 GHz each, tunable within 273 to 374 GHz (www.apex-telescope.org/ns/lasma-large-apex-sub-millimetre-array/)
To prepare the community for the upcoming Call and to specify its details, as well as the instruments for which the observations can be planned, and to answer questions, EU-ARC.CZ will organize a virtual Community Meeting on 01st September, 2023 at 10:00. For participation in the Community Meeting and for further information and help please contact us at email@example.com.
Proposals should be prepared using this template as a single pdf file and submitted via email to firstname.lastname@example.org with “APEX proposal 2023” in the subject. The accepted observations will be done on the best effort basis. Another Call for Proposals for the APEX observations for the Czech community is planned for early 2025.
