Czech version (english follows below):

RNDr. Vladimír Karas, DrSc., ředitel Astronomického ústavu AV ČR, který na seminář cestoval i s několika studenty astrofyziky, Lýdií Štofanovou, Romanou Mikušincovou, Petrou Sukovou a Abhijeetem Borkarem. The small international  conference, or rather meeting, CPK (Cologne-Prague-Kiel) was  organized already for the fourth time. Scientists from three institutes including the Astronomical Institute of the Academy of Sciences discussed about hot topics of the black hole research. Recent discoveries in the center of the Milky Way, which have been achieved thanks to the state-of-the-art observatories including VLT@ESO at Paranal in Chile, brought new, challenging questions. The participants of CPK tried to answer at least some of them from November 30 till December 2, 2016 in the German carnival city.  Furthermore, scientists could enjoy traditional, charming Christmas markets in their free time.

The Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences is involved in the overall collaboration, mainly in cooperation with the University of Cologne, with the focus on the modeling and the interpretation of the Galactic center observations in the infrared domain. In this sense, the work of Vladimír Karas, the director of the institute, Michal Dovčiak and Michal Bursa is especially exquisite. On the long-term basis, they develop and upgrade computer codes that can fit the observational data using the General Theory of Relativity. Currently, the institute is also involved in the monitoring and the interpretation of the G2-cloud phenomenon,” explains Michal Zajaček from the University of Cologne and the external associate of the Astronomical Institute in Prague. CPK16 meeting took place already for the fourth time, this time in the picturesque castle Wahn in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It builds on the tradition that started in the German city of Kiel in 2013. The meeting that took place last year in Prague, from November 9 to 10, 2015, was quite symbolic since it commemorated the Centennial of Einstein's General Theory of Relativity. “Relativistic effects enable us to understand black holes and their immediate vicinity. Einstein created the basis for the modern research of these objects,” says prof. Vladimír Karas, director of the Astronomical Institute of the Academy of Sciences, who traveled to the meeting along with the students of astrophysics, Lýdia Štofanová and Romana Mikušincová, and post-docs, Petra Suková and Abhijeet Borkar.
